Tough One

I was more inspired by the way the University of Kentucky played today in the 2nd half in Knoxville, than I have been in any game this year. The cats found themselves down 19 points on the road early in the 2nd half, only to battle back to tie the game late.

John Wall’s “Never Say Die” attitude is my favorite part of his game. His speed, his leaping ability, and ball handling will make him a lot of money in the NBA, but his will to win will win him multiple championships. As we saw today, his jump shot does not have to be going down for him to make a major impact offensively. He has an uncanny ability to get into the lane against any defense and draw the foul. As great as he has been through 29 games this year, I have a good feeling we have not even seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to J.W.

For the second game in a row, darius Miller made his presence felt on both ends of the floor. He was vital in the cats 2nd half comeback, both with clutch shots and on defense with a couple of key stops and blocks. I’m sure that you, along with all of my friends, are sick of hearing it, but Miller is the key to a special year.

We lost though, right? So, not everything was peaches and cream in this afternoon’s game. Orton looked as if it was his first college game ever in the 1st half. Untimely fouls, turnovers, and that terrible 3 point attempt late in the 1st half contributed to the tough day Big D.O. had.

Dodson was completely ineffective. I can’t remember the last meaningful shot he has hit. He is a big liability of defense too, that is putting it very lightly.

I look for Cal to shave down his rotation even more in the coming games. Liggins and Orton, at this point, are his only viable options off the bench. Dodson, Harris, and Stevenson have played their way into emergency duty only.

The only thing left to do is get up, brush the dust off our britches, and get ready for the final two regular season games. Win the next two, and we are SEC Champs for the 44th time, not bad if I may say so.
