Even in the loss there is something to take away in defeat. UK’s stellar freshmen Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones both surpassed long-standing (23 yrs.) UK records that even the likes of John Wall could not surpass. Rex Chapman’s freshmen scoring records.
While they both are on pace to eclipse the season scoring record, today 2 of Rex’s accomplishments fell victim:
- Brandon Knight racked up his 10th 20+ point performance (Rex had 9 such games)
- Terrence Jones scored his 5th 25+ point outing on the year (Red had 4 such games)
Now all that’s left to tackle in the UK record books is Rex’s freshmen scoring record for the season. Chapman’s 464 points in the 1986-87 season were those of UK lore. Here’s where Jones and Knight sit with 6 regular season games remaining:
- Knight 417
- Jones 429
If both Jones (17.6) and Knight (17.3) continue their averages on the year both will surpass Chapman’s record on the road at Arkansas against a former Cat, John Pelphrey.
