Jones’ Unselfish Play Fueled Other Cats

For once this season Terrence Jones listened to coach. He passed the ball. Many times yesterday in the Cats beatdown of South Carolina TJ passed to an open teammate rather than forcing the issue. Has he finally learned his lesson?

Keeping it all things PG, don’t be a selfish player: the message Coach Cal was trying to get through to Terrence all year. It became ever so prevalent during the Alabama loss when coach was caught by the telecast scolding the young freshmen for not playing team basketball.

There really isn’t an “I” in team and last night Jones seemingly learned his lesson. He was patient, gave up it when he needed to and took the shot when it was time. Jones sharing the love helped other Cats benefit from moving the ball around, including Darius Miller’s career high. “We played great defense and Darius’ shooting was unbelievable,” Jones said. “I just feel we are playing well as a team. Everyone is giving up shots for the extra pass and we are starting to talk well on defense.”

Even though it seemed as if Jones was having an “off” game early he still found a way to get it done on the boards, which was followed with scoring.

Jones finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds, his 10th double-double on the season, but the most important thing to take away from his performance is that he and the team played team basketball. Will that mentality be carried into the Cats final 4 games on the regular season and in to post season play, we will find out sooner than later. But all signs indicate this team is coming together even more when it matters most.
