Big Blue Nation will never forget the 2010 NBA Draft. It was the pinnacle of a season that saw Kentucky basketball return to the party and national relevancy. John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, Patrick Patterson, Eric Bledsoe, and Daniel Orton each heard their named called by the evilest man in the game, Commissioner David Stern, in the 1st round. When John Calipari looked at a reporter at the draft and said, “This is the greatest night in Kentucky basketball history,” he was way off base, but it was pretty sweet.
What should BBN expect from the 65th annual NBA Draft tonight at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN? The Cats have several possible draftees awaiting their next destination to expand their careers. Brandon Knight, DeAndre Liggins, Josh Harrellson, and Enes Kanter are hours away from fulfilling a childhood dream. Tonight, Knight and Calipari will return to a spot where they did their best work together, the Prudential Center. The Newark arena saw cal and Knight take UK to another level with legendary wins over Ohio State and North Carolina in the regional finals. If Knight and Kanter go with the 1st and 4th pick, it won’t even be the “greatest night in Kentucky basketball history” in Prudential Center this year, but it will be pretty sweet.
It should be another “love fest” for Cal and Kentucky tonight on national television. Stuart Scott and his eye will mention Rose, Wall, and every other player to ever play for Cal 538 times. Jeff Van Gundy and Jon Barry will be busy arguing over which one of them will be the first to “Free Enes”. Fran Fraschilla will continue to impersonate an “international” man of mystery and BCG’s ex-girlfriend, Jeannine Edwards, will pretend Cleveland is not a miserable place. The evening will be peppered with “world beating” breaking news coverage and reports by Ric Bucher and Andy Katz and all will be merry!
We will see an enormous amount of zoot suits purchased with credit cards and dozens of ugly hats with tags attached. We will see crying mothers and whispering AAU coaches after their young man’s name is announced. There will be plenty of pretentious David Stern grins and plenty of times I wish pain upon him. It will be the first time the new draftees will be apart of the organization that will undoubtedly fine them over and over again for improper attire and excessive technical fouls for years to come!
In other words… It should be a hell of a night! C! A! T! S!
